Why SimpleEquity Exists
From our founder, Micheline Maes.
Some problems are too painful, too persistent, and too deeply human to ignore. For years, I worked with families at their most vulnerable moments as a Registered Mediator and Charted Financial Divorce Specialist, guiding them through family mediation, property division, co-parenting, wills, and financial planning across Alberta and British Columbia.

In that work, I observed a common, frustrating pattern:

Clients felt overwhelmed by the financial disclosure process, often struggling to understand what was being asked.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

​Lawyers and mediators spent countless hours chasing missing documents, recalculating spreadsheets, reconciling conflicting versions, and clarifying miscommunications.​​

Many clients, understandably, felt excluded — they didn’t see the numbers, didn’t know where things stood, and were unsure whether outcomes were truly fair.

​​​​I repeatedly asked myself:​​

"What if there were a better way — a technology that could bring clarity, accountability, and real collaboration into what is today often a disjointed, opaque ordeal?"​​
​ That question became the spark for SimpleEquity.

What's Behind Our Vault
SimpleEquity is built on Amazon Web Services (AWS) Canada, leveraging military-grade security and industry-leading cloud infrastructure. Our deployment follows strict best practices for data protection, including:

SOC 3 compliant data centers with multiple availability zones

Automated backups stored with physical separation

Infrastructure-as-code for locked, verifiable configurations

Zero-trust architecture—no direct access to production data or servers

All changes to production can only be made through our secure, automated code pipeline - never by manual intervention. This drastically reduces the attack surface and ensures every update is traceable and approved.

Our backend runs on Django, with a React frontend and PostgreSQL database, fully hosted and managed within AWS. Authentication and user management are powered by Auth0 by OKTA, a globally trusted identity platform.
